A trick for removing the alternator on a Jetta MK3 Turbo Diesel (TDI)

Category : General Tips

Hi Everyone,

There are many guides online for replacing the alternator on a Jetta MK3 TDI, but none of them show you how to heck to get it out of the spot it sits without what seems like breaking your AC lines. That is if you AC lines are like mine and the attachment is so rusted you can’t loosen them! Well here is the trick: remove the two main bolts that hold the alternator on, then remove the electrical connections, then rotate the alternator 180 degrees (see image below). In this orientation, the alternator comes out easier and you have to apply less force on your AC lines.
