Free ‘n’ Easy TV – My First Android Application

Category : General

Hi Everyone,

I have always wanted to see if I could make an Android application for my phone. Free ‘n’ Easy TV was my first attempt at doing that. I used MIT’s (formerly Google’s) App Inventor to write most of the code, because I am a visual person and found this easier than doing it in Java.

If you ever wanted to make an app yourself, App Inventor is the way to start! It only requires a web browser to do it. Here is a sample video so you can see. Note though there was a recent update that enhanced the GUI (i.e. Graphical User Interface i.e.e what it looks like) some:

With this anyone can make an Android app. They are even using this in high schools to teach programming to students!

Another great benefit of App Inventor is that you can even upload your app to the Google Play market (if you setup a developer account for a one-time $25 fee). I did this with my app and it got 10,000 downloads before Google took it down. They took it down because the app mainly links users to websites, which I guess is not allowed in the developer agreements haha. Anyways, if you have ever thought about making your own app –Do it!

Comment below if you have any questions/thoughts or if you have used App Inventor before!

-Troy
